Faver-Dykes State Park is another wonderful park. It is located in the southern part of the county off US 1. This delightful park borders Pellicer Creek which empties into the Matanzas River.
The park is a favorite spot for birding. During the spring and fall migrations, you will find a wide variety of songbirds, wood warblers, hawks and eagles in the thick oak hammock. Wading birds can be spotted in the tidal creeks and marshes.
Almost every time we visit this park we are assured of spotting a deer or two meandering along the narrow road that winds through the park. A bit more elusive are residents such as bobcat, turkey, and river otter.
The picnic area has numerous picnic tables, children’s play area, a 1/2 mile loop nature walk and a fishing dock. A second 1/2 mile loop nature trail begins at the campground.
Pellicer Creek is a state canoe trail. Canoe’s are available to rent at the park. I would suggest calling ahead to make a reservation.
The campground has thirty shaded campsites. Each has water, electric, grill and a picnic table. Bathhouses have hot showers and restrooms.
